“We are very excited to offer Double Up Food Bucks at the Downtown Farmers Market. Doubling the food budget and encouraging people to eat locally grown fruits and vegetables is definitely a Win-Win.” Says Phyll Klima, project coordinator.
Double Up Food Bucks in Salina is part of a national movement assisting families to increase consumption of locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables. According to Klima, “This Double Up Food Bucks pilot project is made possible through a grant from the USDA. The Winter Farmers Market at Salina Field House, Downtown Farmers Market, 9th and Grand Farmers Market, and the Salina Farmers Market are the only farmers markets in Salina participating this market season.” Double Up Food Bucks is a part of a USDA Food Insecurity Nutrition Incentive Grant Program. This Kansas/Missouri project is called Double Up Food Bucks Heartland and is administered in Kansas by the Fair Food Network.
